We stock, install, and program FAAC-compatible keypads and intercom systems across Orange County, with most repairs running between $240 and $680 installed, including the part and labor. Same-day service is available for most keypad failures because we keep the common FAAC-compatible keypads and intercom components on our trucks. The typical call starts the same way: you punch in your code, the keypad beeps or doesn’t, the gate stays shut, and you’re either walking around to the pedestrian gate or backing the car out to see if the clicker still works.
FAAC keypads and intercoms fail in patterns we’ve come to recognize after nearly two decades of working on Orange County gates. Sometimes it’s the keypad itself. Sometimes it’s the wiring between the keypad and the control board or the intercom handset and the master station. And sometimes the keypad is fine, but the control board it talks to has stopped listening. We figure out which one it is before we quote anything, because the price difference between a keypad replacement and a control-board repair is real money, and you should know which one you’re paying for before we turn a screw.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
FAAC has used several keypad and intercom configurations over the years, and the compatibility details matter more than most people expect. The older FAAC systems you’ll still find across Orange County neighborhoods, places like Yorba Linda, Tustin, and San Clemente, often used the FAAC 404, 412, and 415 operator families paired with simple weatherproof keypads wired directly to the control board’s open and close terminals. The newer families, including the FAAC E024U, S418, and 770 series common in newer Anaheim Hills and Irvine builds, lean toward keypads and intercoms that communicate through the board’s dedicated accessory ports or wireless modules.
The practical gotcha is this: not every FAAC-compatible keypad talks to every FAAC board. A keypad configured for a 455 D control board will not plug into an E024U and work without reconfiguration, and some older intercom handsets run on a bus voltage the newer boards don’t provide. We identify the right part by reading the control board model off the board itself, not the keypad face. The OEM FAAC keypads for the current lines are reliable but pricey, often $180 to $320 for the part alone. Quality aftermarket equivalents from manufacturers like DoorKing and Linear run $80 to $160 and, honestly, hold up just as well in Orange County sun if they’re weather-sealed. We’ll give you the OEM price and the equivalent price and let you decide. Portcullis Gate Repair is an independent service company, not an FAAC-authorized dealer, so we’re free to recommend the part that makes sense for your gate and your budget, not the one a manufacturer wants us to push.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- The keypad beeps but the gate does nothing. This usually points to a wiring break between the keypad and the control board, or a relay on the board that has stopped closing. The keypad is often still fine, which is why we test the board before we sell you a keypad.
- Some numbers work, one doesn’t. That’s a worn keypad membrane. The carbon contacts under the rubber pad erode, especially the numbers people use every day. The keypad is not repairable at the component level, so replacement is the honest fix.
- The intercom rings but the voice is garbled or one-way. We see this on coastal Orange County properties more than inland ones. The humidity and salt air near Newport Beach and Laguna corrode the intercom wire connections and the speaker terminals. Sometimes cleaning and re-terminating fixes it; sometimes the handset speaker is done.
- The keypad works on cold mornings and dies when it’s hot. Orange County summers in places like Fullerton and Orange expose failing solder joints and heat-damaged components inside the keypad housing. If the symptom follows the temperature, the part is telling you it’s on the way out.
- Your code works, but only from one side of the keypad or at one angle. This is usually a cracked keypad face letting moisture into the membrane. Once water reaches the PCB, the keypad corrodes fast, and the intermittent behavior becomes permanent failure within weeks.

Every quote follows the same Kingswell rule: you get the price in writing before we start, and that written price is what you pay. No discovery fees after we’ve opened the panel. No “while we’re in there” add-ons you didn’t approve. If we open the keypad and find a corroded wiring run that changes the scope, we stop, show you what we found, and give you a new written price before we touch anything else. The Kingswell Guarantee covers the repair for 365 days, written on your invoice, and if the keypad or intercom fails inside that window, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s a Portcullis commitment, not a sales pitch. Every Portcullis location is independently owned and operated, and every one of us is bound to those same four written promises: the price before the work, the arrival window we gave you, a clean site when we leave, and a written guarantee on the repair.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things are safe to check yourself. If your keypad went dead, confirm the operator still has power and the keypad isn’t just unplugged at the surge protector. Check whether the keypad’s visible wire run has been chewed or scraped, which happens more than you’d think in Orange County backyards with gophers, raccoons, and overgrown bougainvillea. If you have a wired intercom, look at the terminal screws at the gate post and the master station. If they’re green or chalky, that’s corrosion, and it’s pointed you at the likely problem.
Here’s what we don’t recommend. Don’t open the FAAC control board enclosure and start testing wires if you’re not trained on low-voltage diagnostics. You’re dealing with 120V coming into that enclosure, and the low-voltage side is easy to short if you probe the wrong terminal. Don’t buy a generic keypad from an online marketplace based on a product photo alone. FAAC board compatibility is specific, and we’ve replaced plenty of $60 keypads with the correct $140 part because the first one never communicated with the board. If the diagnosis feels over your head, call us at (820) 529-0801. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a keypad, a wiring problem, or a board issue, and we’ll give you a real price window before we ever send a truck.
FAQs
Most FAAC keypads and intercom handsets in Orange County last 7 to 12 years, with coastal properties losing a few years to salt air and inland properties losing a few to heat. If yours is past the 10-year mark and failing, replacement is usually the better call than repeated component repair.
We can’t repair the internal membrane or circuit board of a keypad, those are replacement-level parts. We can and do repair the wiring, terminals, and programming around the keypad, which is often the actual problem. Call (820) 529-0801 and we’ll help you figure out which situation you’re in before you spend anything.
Most FAAC keypad replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on-site, including programming your codes and testing the full open and close cycle. Intercom replacements run 1 to 2 hours depending on the wiring condition at the gate and inside the house.
Yes, we keep FAAC-compatible keypads and common intercom handsets on our service trucks alongside parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, but the exact FAAC board you have determines which keypad we install. If we don’t have your specific model on the truck, we source it locally same week in most Orange County cases.
We test the control board before we sell you a keypad. If the board’s relay has failed or it’s not reading inputs, we’ll show you the test result and quote the board repair or replacement separately. You’ll never pay for a keypad that wasn’t the problem.
