Linear Gate Installation in Orange County: What to Know First

Linear gate installation in Orange County typically runs between $1,400 and $4,800 depending on whether you need a new operator mounted on an existing gate, a full gate-and-operator package, or a replacement for a failed unit. Most residential Linear actuator swaps are done in a single visit, with the written price agreed before we unbolt anything. Dean Prescott and the team at Portcullis Gate Repair Orange County install, replace, and upgrade Linear operators for swing gates, slide gates, and pedestrian gates across the county every week.

Call (820) 529-0801

If you own a Linear system and the gate is dead, grinding, or simply not latching, call (820) 529-0801. We’ll tell you what we think it is, what it costs, and when we can be there.

How Linear Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • Linear LDO50 and LSO50 actuator arm seizure. These are the workhorse swing-gate actuators we see all over Orange County, from tract homes in Lake Forest to larger lots in Yorba Linda. The known weakness is the internal limit-switch assembly. Salt air near the coast accelerates corrosion on the switch contacts, and the arm starts either stopping short or running past the closed position. We diagnose it as a limit-switch failure rather than condemning the whole operator, then replace the switch assembly with OEM parts when you want factory exact, or a quality aftermarket equivalent that carries the same 365-day written guarantee from us.
  • Linear M3 and M3S control board relay burnout on slide gates. The M-series boards live in an enclosure that gets hot in an Irvine or Mission Viejo summer, especially if the box is mounted on a south-facing wall. The internal relay welds shut after repeated high-heat cycles, and the gate either won’t respond or runs continuously. We replace the relay or the board, and we’ll relocate or vent the enclosure so it doesn’t happen again. That second step is the difference between a repair and a repair that lasts.
  • Linear APeX and MegaCode receiver drift. These are entry keypad and receiver modules paired with Linear operators. The failure homeowners notice is that remotes and keypads work inconsistently, usually within 20 feet of the gate. It’s not the remote battery. The receiver’s frequency reference drifts out of tolerance, especially after a few years of temperature swings. We re-tune or replace the receiver, reprogram the remotes, and test from inside the car, not from the fence line.
  • Linear slide-gate chain and belt stretch on the SL and LRA lines. We do a lot of work in commercial corridors near the Irvine Spectrum and around Anaheim’s industrial parks where Linear slide operators run hundreds of cycles a day. Chain stretch and belt wear cause the gate to slam at the end of travel or bounce off the physical stops. We measure tension against spec, replace the chain or belt, re-set the limits, and add a tension check to our written post-install notes.
  • Linear photo-eye and safety-edge wiring failures. The safety circuit on an older Linear install often has original low-voltage wiring that’s been spliced repeatedly or chewed by rodents. The gate refuses to close, or reverses for no visible reason. We trace the safety circuit, replace the damaged wire runs, and re-verify entrapment protection per California code. A Linear gate that won’t stay closed is annoying; a Linear gate with a bypassed safety circuit is dangerous.

One thing to understand clearly: we are an independent Linear service provider. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Linear, and we don’t pretend to be. What we bring is 16 years of hands-on experience with these operators in Orange County conditions – coastal salt air, inland heat, and gates that get more use than most manufacturers’ test cycles ever imagined.

Our Linear Gate Installation Process

Here’s how a typical Linear gate installation goes with us, from first call to final walk-through.

  1. 1
You call (820) 529-0801. A live person answers. We ask what the gate is doing (or not doing), what model you can see on the operator or in your paperwork, and what part of Orange County you’re in. We then give you a real arrival window, not a four-hour shrug.
  2. 2
We diagnose on-site and show you the problem. Dean or one of our uniformed techs pulls the cover, checks the actuator, board, limits, and safety circuit, and shows you exactly what failed and why. You are not buying a mystery repair.
  3. 3
You get a written price before any work starts. This is the Kingswell rule and it doesn’t bend. The price you see is the price on the invoice. If we uncover something unexpected mid-job, we stop and call you. No bolt gets turned on surprise work.
  4. 4
We install OEM or quality aftermarket parts and go over the tradeoff with you. Factory Linear parts preserve the exact factory spec and any remaining manufacturer warranty. Aftermarket equivalents can save 20 to 30 percent and we only use ones we’ve seen survive Orange County conditions. You choose. Either way, our written guarantee still applies for 365 days.
  5. 5
We test the gate under real conditions. We cycle it at least a dozen times, test every remote and keypad, trip the photo-eyes and safety edge, and watch the limits with the gate loaded. We then clean the work area and walk you through what we fixed and how to tell if anything is off.
  6. 6
We hand you the written guarantee. Every repair and installation invoice carries the Kingswell Guarantee in writing. If anything fails within 365 days, we return and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

What Linear Gate Installation Costs in Orange County

We quote every job in writing before starting, but here are honest ranges for the most common Linear scenarios we see across Orange County. These include parts and labor.

  • Linear swing-gate actuator replacement (single arm, LDO50 or LSO50): $1,400 – $2,600
  • Linear slide-gate operator replacement (M3 or similar, residential): $1,800 – $3,400
  • Full double-gate installation with Linear actuators and control board: $3,600 – $5,800
  • Linear pedestrian gate operator installation: $1,200 – $2,200
  • Control board replacement with reprogramming: $480 – $900
  • Safety circuit repair (photo-eyes, edge, wiring): $250 – $650

What moves the price: gate weight and length, whether the existing mounting pads and power run are reusable, and whether we’re replacing a failed operator or building from scratch. Coastal properties in Newport or Laguna often need stainless hardware and sealed enclosures, which add a bit of cost up front and save a lot of rust later. Why Orange County Homeowners Call Portcullis Gate Repair Orange County for Linear Work

Most of our Linear customers come to us after a bad experience with another gate company. Someone never showed, or the quote doubled at the door, or the fix lasted six weeks. The Kingswell Way is our answer to all of that: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. Every Portcullis location is independently owned and operated, but held to the identical Kingswell Guarantee. Not a franchise promise – a written one.

Dean grew up on the San Fernando Valley side of Los Angeles and did his industrial mechanics training at LA Trade-Tech before spending the better part of two decades fixing gates across Orange County. He’s seen Linear operators outlive three different homeowners, and he’s also seen ten-year-old Linear boards fail because nobody ever cleaned the enclosure. The technicians we send are background-checked and uniformed. They work on Linear every week, and they also know LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing – so if the right answer is a different operator, we’ll tell you that instead of selling you the wrong one.
