Most Ghost Controls gate failures we see in Orange County aren’t the motor or the control board. They’re the welded steel components: the gate bracket that snaps at the weld, the clevis pin mount that tears loose, or the post hinge that fatigues after years of wind load off the canyons. When one of these fails, we typically fabricate and install a replacement for $180 to $420 parts and labor, and we stock heavy-gauge steel stock on the truck to handle most Ghost Controls bracket and mount repairs same-day. The symptom that usually tips owners off is a gate that starts sagging, clunks mid-travel, or suddenly refuses to close because the actuator arm no longer lines up with the gate leaf.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. What that means for you: we stock parts that match Ghost Controls geometry and we know which aftermarket fabrication holds up better than the OEM piece in coastal air.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls uses similar mechanical mounting hardware across its swing-arm actuator lineup: the VELOX, AXDP, and HYPRO series all share the same basic gate bracket and post bracket geometry, though the arm lengths and clevis pin diameters differ by model. The welded fabrication we do covers the gate mounting bracket, the post pivot bracket, the clevis fork, and any extension plates needed when the original weld points have wallowed out or sheared.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in Orange County: the VELOX and AXDP use a 5/8-inch clevis pin, while the HYPRO uses a larger 3/4-inch pin. If you order the wrong bracket online or – worse – have someone weld a generic bracket on, the pin slop will chew through the bushing in under a year. We measure on-site before cutting anything. Most Ghost Controls systems installed before 2018 have mild-steel brackets that rust at the weld line, especially within five miles of the coast. Newer systems use powder-coated steel, but the coating fails first at the edges. When we fabricate replacements, we use thicker gauge steel than OEM and fully weld both sides. That’s the difference between a repair that lasts a season and one that outlasts the operator.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the hinge end or the latch end by more than half an inch. That sag is almost always a cracked weld at the gate bracket, not a hinge problem. The actuator keeps pulling, but the gate leaf is drifting.
- You hear a metallic pop or clunk when the gate changes direction. This is the welded bracket shifting under load. The weld hasn’t fully separated yet, but it’s tearing a little more every cycle.
- The actuator arm visibly flexes or twists mid-stroke. When the post bracket weld fails, the arm loses its pivot point and starts working at an angle. It looks like the motor is struggling, but the motor is fine. The bracket is gone.
- You find rust flakes or rust paste below any welded joint. Orange County’s coastal moisture plus morning fog in the canyons accelerates corrosion at weld lines. By the time you see rust paste, the weld’s cross-section is compromised.
- The gate stops mid-cycle and the control board flashes a force overload code. The board thinks something is blocking the gate. What’s actually happening is the broken bracket is causing the arm to bind intermittently.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work in Orange County, here’s what you should expect to pay, installed:
| Repair Type | Typical Installed Range | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Gate bracket replacement (standard steel) | $180 – $260 | Removal, fabrication, welding, re-alignment |
| Post bracket / pivot mount replacement | $200 – $300 | On-site fabrication, weld, paint/coating, torque check |
| Clevis fork or pin mount repair | $160 – $240 | New clevis fabricated, pin replaced if worn |
| Custom reinforcement plate (rusted weld zone) | $220 – $420 | CAD-cut plate, full weld, corrosion treatment |
The price range depends on hinge-post access, whether the old bracket has damaged the gate frame, and how much grinding and prep the rusted area needs. We write the price down before any work starts, and that number doesn’t change after we open the panel or start cutting. Every fabrication comes with our written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or the bracket fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No argument about who’s at fault, no re-quote.
DIY or Call Us?
Honest answer from the field: if the weld crack is visible and less than a quarter inch long, you can photograph it, keep the gate locked open, and call us before it gets worse. That’s the smart DIY move. But welding a gate bracket yourself is where we recommend stopping if you don’t do this for a living. A gate bracket is under constant cyclical load, and a cold weld or a wrong filler rod can fail without warning and drop a 400-pound gate leaf. We’ve also seen homeowners weld the bracket on solid while the gate was out of square, then wonder why the operator burns out in eight weeks. The second DIY mistake: grinding off the old bracket and realizing the gate frame is too thin in that spot to accept new weld without a backing plate. That’s the point where the job just doubled and you still need a welder. We fabricate brackets on the truck and most Ghost Controls welding repairs in Orange County are done in one visit. Call (820) 529-0801 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer and a written price before any work starts.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and coated bracket lasts 8 to 12 years in most Orange County conditions, but within three miles of the coast, expect 5 to 8 years before corrosion at the weld line starts to show. Ghost Controls’ OEM brackets are typically on the shorter end of that range, which is why we fabricate thicker replacements when ours fails. Call (820) 529-0801 if your bracket is showing rust paste or flaking along the weld, and we’ll tell you if it can wait.
Sometimes. If the weld crack is hairline and the steel around it is still thick, we can grind, re-weld, and gusset it for $120 to $180. If the bracket is rust-thinned at the weld zone, patching it is a short-term fix that will crack again where the good metal meets the thinned section. We’ll tell you which one you have before quoting. Call (820) 529-0801 and describe what you’re seeing.
Most single-bracket fabrications and installations run 60 to 90 minutes on-site. If we’re doing a custom reinforcement plate or re-aligning a sagging gate, plan for up to two hours. We do not quote a job without seeing the bracket, so the time estimate you get is the time we expect to spend. Call (820) 529-0801 for a ballpark based on your model and symptoms.
We stock a range of pre-cut bracket blanks, clevis forks, and steel plate that covers most Ghost Controls VELOX, AXDP, and HYPRO configurations in Orange County. For the few oddball setups, we run to our local steel supplier in Santa Ana and still finish the same day. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing operators. Call (820) 529-0801 and we’ll confirm we have your bracket before you unlock the driveway gate.
