We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Orange County, with most bracket, hinge, and weld-repair jobs running $180 – $420 installed depending on the gate’s weight and what has to be cut out and replaced. We carry the common MM-series weld plates, gate brackets, and reinforcement kits on the truck, so most calls in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine, or Huntington Beach are one-visit fixes. The usual story is the same: the gate starts sagging or grinding, the opener strains harder, and the owner finds a cracked weld at the post hinge or a torn mounting ear where the actuator arm bolts to the gate frame.
You do not have to guess which part your Mighty Mule system needs. We match it by model number, gate material, and measurements, write down the price, and do the work the same day in most Orange County neighborhoods.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule has been building swing and slide gate operators for long enough that there are several series still running in Orange County yards: the MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571, FM350, FM500, FM502, and the newer MMT series, plus the heavier MMK line. The welding and fabrication needs differ by series and gate style. The MM260 and MM360 were paired with lighter tube-steel gates, and what usually fails is the post bracket or the gate mounting plate. The MM571 and FX-series often sit on heavier ornamental gates, where the failure is more often a torn weld at the hinge or a cracked receiver tube where the actuator clevis pin runs.
One compatibility gotcha we see almost weekly: the bolt pattern on the factory Mighty Mule gate bracket changed between the older MM-series and the newer MMT-series, and the two are not interchangeable without re-drilling the gate frame. If the mounting holes do not line up, that is not always a sign the wrong bracket was ordered. It often means the gate was built for one series and the opener was swapped at some point. We make that determination on site before any cutting or welding starts.
On replacement parts, there is a real decision. Some owners want OEM Mighty Mule parts to match exactly. Others are better served by a quality aftermarket steel bracket or weld plate, particularly on Orange County ornamental gates where the factory plate was undersized for the gate’s weight from the start. We keep both OEM and heavier aftermarket steel in stock and recommend whichever fits the gate, not whichever carries a bigger logo.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Sag at the free end of the gate. The gate dips lower the farther it is from the hinge post, which means a weld at the hinge or the post plate has begun to tear and the gate is now hanging on the opener more than the hinges.
- Grinding or clicking when the actuator runs. The operator arm is pulling at an angle because a mounting ear has cracked or the bracket has twisted, so the clevis pin binds instead of rotating smoothly.
- Fresh rust staining around a weld joint. Salt air near Huntington Beach, Dana Point, or Newport Beach eats at weld seams faster than the rest of the powder coating. Rust lines at a joint usually mean the weld is starting to open.
- The opener pushes but the gate hesitates or slows mid-travel. The gate frame itself has flexed or cracked, and the extra drag is now the motor’s problem. If ignored, this burns out the actuator.
- A visible crack or gap at a bolt hole. The plate was never thick enough for the gate’s mass, and the bolt is now tearing through the steel. This is common on heavier Ornamental gates in Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda where the original bracket was a light-duty factory piece.

Most Mighty Mule welding and fabrication work in Orange County runs between $180 and $420 installed. A simple post bracket or gate plate swap will be at the low end. A cracked hinge that needs cutting out, a new weld, and paint touch-up will be higher. If the actuator mounting ear has torn clean off and the gate frame needs a reinforcement plate welded in, that can run toward the upper end of that range or beyond depending on the gate’s size and access.
You get the price in writing before any work starts, and that price includes the part, the labor, cutting and welding as needed, and cleanup. Every repair we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If a weld fails or a bracket we installed fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That is not a verbal promise. It is written on the repair invoice, the way Dean Prescott has run things at Portcullis Gate Repair Orange County since 2008.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do is identify the failure: look for a cracked weld, a bent bracket, or rusted-through steel around the hinge. Taking a photo and a measurement from bolt center to bolt center helps us match the part before dispatch. What you should not do is attempt to weld a gate hinge or bracket yourself if the gate is still mounted and under tension. A gate that has sagged is loaded, and cutting into a loaded hinge can release that weight suddenly. Welders also run hot enough to damage the powder coat and any nearby wiring, and the heat will transfer straight into the operator arm if the bracket is still bolted on.
If the gate is sagging and the Mighty Mule opener is fighting it, the safest first call is to us at (820) 529-0801. We will tell you what we think over the phone, schedule the visit, and hand you a written price before we pick up the welder.
FAQs
Heavy steel brackets and welded repairs on Mighty Mule gates typically last 10 to 15 years in Orange County, with coastal areas needing more attention to rust at the weld seams than inland cities like Tustin or Lake Forest. Powder coating over the weld and checking the penetration depth are the two things that determine lifespan, and we do both on every weld repair. Call (820) 529-0801 if you want us to look at a weld that has been patched before and is failing again.
A cracked Mighty Mule bracket can sometimes be welded, but we do not recommend it on the factory brackets because the metal is often too thin to hold a reliable weld. On heavier aftermarket brackets or the gate frame itself, a weld repair makes solid sense. We will tell you which way to go on site, and either way the price is written down before the weld starts.
Most Mighty Mule bracket and weld repairs we handle in Orange County are finished in 90 minutes to 3 hours, including cleanup and a full open-close test of the operator. Repairs that need cutting out an old hinge or reinforcing a torn gate frame run longer. You will know the schedule and the price before we start.
We stock the common Mighty Mule post brackets, gate brackets, weld plates, and reinforcement steel on the truck, along with the hardware in both standard and stainless finishes. That covers most MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571, FM350, FM500, and FM502 service calls in Orange County without a second visit. If we need a heavier or less common piece, we source it same week and you get a written quote before the order is placed.
Whether your Mighty Mule bracket is cracked, your gate hinges have torn free, or the actuator ear has let go, we can match the part, weld it right, and charge you a price you saw before the work began. Call (820) 529-0801 for a free estimate, and we will have a live person on the line, any hour, ready to help.
