Meet the Orange County Team Behind Portcullis Gate Repair Orange County

We’re an independent Orange County gate repair shop, and the people who answer your call are the same ones who show up at your driveway. No call center, no rotating cast. Founded in 2008, our Kingswell location has been fixing swing gates, slide gates, and electric operators across cities like Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, and Fullerton for the better part of two decades. Every technician is background-checked, uniformed, and trained across nine gate-operator brands. What unites the crew is simple: we write the price before we touch a bolt, and we stand behind the work for a full year.

Our People

Dean Prescott, Owner & Lead Technician

Dean founded this Portcullis Gate Repair location in 2008 and still runs service calls most days of the week. He’s the guy who will tell you your LiftMaster actuator, the motorized arm that pushes the gate open, has maybe two years left and here’s what a replacement runs before you ask. He carries certifications across all nine brands we service, but his real specialty is diagnosing intermittent faults, the ones that only happen when it rains or when a truck rumbles past. Off the clock, he restores old gate operators and has a garage shelf of units that outlived three different homeowners. He still answers his own phone when he’s not under a gate.

Mike R., Senior Installer

Mike has been installing gates in Orange County since 2012 and joined Portcullis five years ago. He handles full gate installations, from digging post footings to running low-voltage wire through existing conduit. Mike is our FAAC and BFT specialist, and he’s the one who walks new customers through operator settings in plain English instead of reading from a manual. He grew up in Garden Grove and knows which neighborhoods have soil that shifts enough to throw a gate off its track within a season. On weekends he coaches his daughter’s soccer team, which means he’s very good at explaining things twice without getting annoyed.

Sarah T., Service Coordinator

Sarah is the voice you’ll usually hear when you call at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m. She’s been with our Portcullis location since 2019 and keeps the dispatch board organized without making you feel like you’re being processed. Sarah knows the difference between a gate won’t open at all and a gate opens halfway then reverses, which helps her get the right tech with the right parts to your place on the first trip. Before gate repair, she worked in property management in Costa Mesa, so she speaks fluent HOA and understands why a broken gate at a rental property needs attention before it becomes a liability. She keeps a running list of every gate operator we’ve ever touched in the county.

Leo V., Apprentice Technician

Leo joined us in 2023 after two years in commercial access-control installation, and he’s working through his brand certifications one by one, currently laser-focused on Viking and DoorKing slide-gate systems. He shadows Dean on most calls and handles a lot of the safety-edge testing, the sensors that stop a gate before it pins anything. Leo is meticulous about labeling wires, which sounds small until you open a control board that someone else left looking like spaghetti. He’s a Fullerton native and rebuilds old motorcycles in his spare time, which means he has no problem spending an hour getting a gear-driven operator to mesh just right.

One Standard, Every Job

The team at our Orange County location is independently owned and operated, but we’re held to a standard that’s written down, not assumed. It’s called The Kingswell Way, and it has five commitments: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave you, leave the job site cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if the repair fails. Every invoice carries a written 365-day guarantee. If a repair fails inside that year, we return and fix it at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it applies whether Dean tightens the hinge or Leo swaps a safety sensor. No exceptions, no fine print, no asking the customer to argue their way into a return visit. The same standard runs through every Kingswell company, but this crew is the one that actually shows up at your gate in Orange County. Written price before a single bolt turns. That’s the way Dean has run this shop since 2008, and it’s the way the people under him work every day.
